Sucks to be Emma

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Emma is having a rough time. Whatever bug is bugging her has gotten worse over the last day or so, resulting in a fever, a nasty cough, and difficulty breathing. Neither epi nor ventolin are proving enough relief tonight and the medical team is working to rule out various causes.

I spent the night at CHEO again with Emma, and we made a bunch of new friends in the wee hours including the resident, senior resident, respiratory therapist, xray technician, and a few more nurses. Unfortunately for Emma these new friendships came along with a set of xrays, blood samples, some physio on her chest, IV antibiotics, suctioning, and a lot of miscellaneous poking and prodding. She’s requiring a bit less oxygen, but is still working much harder to breathe than she should have to.

Despite it all she’s sleeping comfortably and I think I just saw a bit of a smile.

Now we have some news

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Emma has had a bit of a cough for a few days. Last night it turned nasty, she ran into respiratory problems, I took her to CHEO around 11pm, and she was promptly admitted. I just got home and Laurie is at CHEO with her now. I expect she’ll be there a few days. More after I get some sleep…

A blog, eh?

Um, Dad, this blog thing is pretty cool…now what should I write?

(No news is good news…)

Finger Food

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Over the past few weeks, Emma has begun investigating the world with her hands. She’s now grabbing at everything around her (including an unsuspecting Daddy) and has recently discovered that her fingers are Very Yummy!

While she won’t be starting “real” food for months yet, Emma joins us at the dinner table every evening. Apparently, she doesn’t find our dinner conversations very interesting :)

P.S..I also realized this week that we’ve passed a noteworthy date: Emma has now been home longer than she was in hospital! She was in the NICU for just shy of 15 weeks and she’s been home with us almost 16 weeks… we just won’t count the 2 weeks she spent at CHEO in January, now will we :)

Giggles

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

Emma has been smiling for ages now, but this week we’ve finally had the pleasure of hearing her belly laughs :)

There’s nothing better than a happy giggly baby:

P.S. still no word about the reflux/milk scan test results…..
