The Emma Report

Emma was playing in her crib this afternoon as I put some of her now-too-small clothes away (she’s grown out of her 0-3 month outfits and is nicely filling out some of her 6 month-sized clothes!).

She was cooing and kicking and waving her hands at her mobile as I boxed up some things:

When I looked back at her 30 seconds later, I saw this:

I missed it!! Emma rolled all the way over for the first time today, and I missed it!!

(she’s been rolling onto her side for a few weeks now, but always seems to get stuck half-way over)

Emma happily obliged me by rolling over again so I was able to capture the moments:

P.S. It’s hard to keep up with the drool around here lately and Emma is constantly sucking on her fingers. Teething may be starting too…

It was another beautiful weekend, weather-wise, so we all went for a visit to the Farm.

Michaela especially liked the new baby animals, though she was a bit afraid of the big Mama cows

In other news, Emma had an appointment with the respirologist at CHEO on Friday. While he was pleased with how her lungs sounded, he felt that she has moderate BPD, not mild as we had previously been told (see Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia website for more information: http://www.cheo.on.ca/english/2012.html).

The doc was concerned that Emma may still be aspirating small amounts of milk when she feeds (even though her milk is now thickened), which could result in inflammation of her bronchial tubes. Repeated aspiration can lead to worsened lung scarring or delay the healing process in BPD, and may also cause lung infection or pneumonia. In order to see whether Emma is still aspirating, she’ll have another swallow study done in a couple of weeks and we’ll go back to see the doc in early June. In the worse-case scenario, if she is still aspirating, she may need to have surgery for a Gastrostomy tube (or “G-tube”). For now, we’ll continue on meds., watch her very carefully, and hope that such a drastic procedure won’t be necessary.

Emma was enjoying some ‘puter time this morning… Daddy (and Opa) would be proud

Emma continues to do very well. We’ll be seeing a respirologist at CHEO later in the week for follow-up to her recent hospital stay, but so far, so good.

Now that the nicer weather has finally arrived, we went for a family walk around the neighbourhood yesterday with Emma in her stroller and Big Sister on her tricycle. It was so nice to finally be able to take Emma outside for a while! We can’t wait for summer!!

P.S. Big Sister’s spots disappeared late last week… looks like it was a reaction to penicillin.
